00077 Haake FE thermostatted water circulator. Serial no. 78096. 2004 Replaced 470 microfarad capacitor and TCA280B control IC. Still not working. 2005-02-10 Replaced 2.7 kohm resistor. Still not working. 2006-09-07 Fixed connections on triac and installed another new TCA280B. 2006-09-28 Reassembled & tested. Still not working. The voltage on the gate of the Triac is not changing when the thermal switch changes state. Seems that one of the resistors or caps was toasted when the triac was mis-connected or that the new TCA280B made by IES differs from the Phillips which the circuit was designed around. Draw a decent schematic, check all the resistors & caps and understand the circuit design well enough to recognize why it isn't working. The schematic in the Haake FE manual in the filing cabinet is almost legible. The TCA280B which might have been damaged by having the gate connected to "B" (yikes!) has a fragment of tape on top marked 1. The second replacement TCA280B is unmarked. Shelve this project until there is time to burn (dream on).

00520 Cornelius Ice Maker model WC-300-SS-MH, serial no.: HB5490. This machine is in the shared instrument room. 2002 07 24 Ice bridge too thick to break when the plate drops into the chute. Resistance of the evaporator thermocouple measures 2410 Ohms; should be 2815 +/- 10%. 2002 07 24-26 Adjusted potentiometer to reduce the thickness of the ice bridge. Cricuit Board 161456037 368.23 $ Sensor 161456002 51.43 $ 2002 08 09 Installed new circuit board. Ice production is normal again. Water pump leaks and needs service. 2002 08 18 or 19 circuitry shut down. Seems that an ice plate jammed in the chute or there is a problem in the refrigeration cycle. New sensor installed. Working again but harvest still fails occasionally? 2003 03 07 Observed several cycles. Two manual harvest activations sometimes needed to free ice. 2003-11-26 Harvest is failing more frequently. Dan in Tech Support at Mason City said that this failure is usual in a machine of such an age. With time the evaporator surfaces corrode and wear. Surface roughness impedes the ice from falling free. He recommended rotating the machine a few degrees counter clockwise and applying a thin film of lubricant to the evaporator surface. Also check that cooling water is not running through the heat exchanger during the harvest. This will lower the hot gas temperature and further slow the harvest. With monitoring for stuck ice and powering down at night the machine can probably be kept in service for another year. 2003-12-10 Replacement Evaporator will cost about 1800$ + shipping + ~$400 installation = ~2300$.
