Residential Water Supply, Magic Lake Subdivision
Topography in the Magic Lake Estates subdivision is hilly.
Consequent to this and to operation of valves in the mains,
the pressure at a residential connection can fluctuate and can be excessive.
Valves illustrated here protect the water heater and other parts of the residential
system from excessive pressures.
A ball valve allows isolation from the main.
A pressure reducing valve limits pressure transmitted from the main supply to the local system.
A relief valve limits the pressure from expansion when the system is heated from a cold state.
A compression valve is for a garden hose connection
and for venting when draining the system.
The vertical legs of the loop are 334 mm center to center.

The manifold on the bench. Components, counterclockwise from the inlet at the lower right,
are dark grey union, 3/4 inch ball valve with red handle, 1/2 inch pressure reducing valve,
tee with compression valve for hose, 1/2 inch relief valve, dark grey union.

Manifold installed in the 3/4 inch line. The outlet is the lowest pipe in the photograph.
The inlet is above it. In both of these sections flow is left to right.

Manifold with the Brooks meter box in place.
The two aluminum rods are for stability.

One of two compost chambers for the toilet illustrated above.
The chamber is concrete integral with the foundation and floor slab of the
residence. This is the non-working chamber currently used for storage.
When the working chamber reaches capacity, the toilet will be shifted to this
chamber. Feces will collect on a basket of steel wire mounted on wheels.
The disused chamber will be left to allow decomposition to complete before emptying.
The 12 V power supply for the continuously operating exhaust fan of the working chamber
is visible above the opening.

A hypothetical installation of a urine-diverting toilet in a timber frame building.
Normally only one toilet stool is present. The two chambers allow one to
contain an undisturbed decomposition process while the other is in use. The
decomposition can proceed for several months before the basket is emptied.
